About the Artist
Romanian-born photographer Marius Muresanu has spent the past four decades absorbing and documenting cultural norms, taboos, and nuances of American society. His work reflects an allegiance to his classical training, fondness for an old world Eastern European aesthetics, and his life experience as an immigrant. Whether it is an operating room, a fetishist’s lair, or a gubernatorial candidate’s back office, he tries to capture sharp, witty, and intelligent viewpoints. He does not cater to the censorship of power, rather exposing its imperfections, illuminates un-manicured expressions, and glimpses the sincerity of moments unfolding.
Marius has spent most of his career as a senior creative professional with both published books and gallery exhibitions in his dossier. He is the CEO and co-founder of Authorized Biography, an oral histories publishing company. From 2002 to 2005 he was the co-owner and producer of the infamous burlesque revival house, The Va Va Voom Room. He was also the founder of educational publisher Foca Company, and has served as a brand consultant and photographer for two New York State governors. Marius holds a BA from Harvard College, and an MFA from the Yale School of Art. He currently resides in Santa Fe, NM.
