The Mulholland Group Debuts Immersive Mural installation in Low Income Senior Development
Building upon developer Royce Mulholland’s commitment to community investment, the Mulholland Group debuted eleven floor-to-ceiling murals by New York based artist Henrik Langsdorf in its newly renovated Albany, New York Apartments, Royce on the Park. Our first collaboration, the installation grew from a plan to hang a selection of prints to a more immersive and engaging installation that graces the elevator landings of all residential floors of the formerly drab sixties structure and becoming an instant hit with residents.
Langsdorf’s work spans several disciplines ranging from abstract art to design, animation and illustration. Using an alias, his editorial work has been published in publications such as The New York Times, The New Yorker and The Wall Street Journal. He has previously created murals for the United Nations in East Timor and has just completed a large scale work for a Warby Parker store. For the murals at Royce on the Park Langsdorf incorporated a dynamic mixture of biomorphic abstract forms to create colorful interventions in a public and highly trafficked space.
For the artist, the experience of direct feedback from the building’s residents was immensely gratifying. “Here you have people who might not often visit a museum, giving an unfiltered reaction to abstract art. The feeling of having a direct and positive impact on the day-to-day lives of the residents is as good as it gets.”
